Lifeboat Rescue by Mark Myers. On 5th January 1881 the Ramsgate Lifeboat Bradford was called out to the Indian Chief which was aground on Long Sand. By daylight the Indian Chief was breaking up, and on it were the 12 survivors of her crew. The lifeboatmen raced down under sail to the wreck and anchored there, where a line was floated to the lifeboat to rescue the crew after a gruelling 26 hours (the scene in the painting).
